easy@home qualitative ovulation test vs premom quantitative test

“How can I figure out my Luteinizing Hormone levels and predict my ovulation?”

A question that pops up often when using ovulation tests is, “What’s the difference between T/C ratio and LH levels?” This leads to the question, “Why are there two separate tabs in the Premom app for these two categories, and where do I upload my tests?”

Premom offers two types of ovulation test readings for these two different tests.

T/C ratios on regular ovulation tests can only give you a general idea of your hormone levels. To find an accurate LH level, you’ll need to enlist the help of a quantitative ovulation test!

Most ovulation tests compare the test line to the control line, such as our most popular blue handle ovulation test strips. The T/C ratio is this comparison of the color intensity of the T line to the color intensity of the C line. When looking for your LH peak, the highest ratio value, you are aiming for a ratio of at least .8-1.0, or when the test line is as dark as the control line.  (As the test line gets lighter than the control line, it will decrease further from 1.0.)

LH levels can be measured only by using our purple handled Premom quantitative test strips and are uploaded under the “Premom” tab. When reading theses tests, you aren’t looking for the test line to be as dark or darker than the control line.  Instead, the test strips quantify your LH level from 0 to 65 mIU/mL and show your exact LH results.  These are particularly beneficial for women with PCOS, irregular cycles, multiple surges, elevated LH levels, or hard-to-recognize surges.  They have a steady control line and give an exact LH level, making it easier to find the highest value among all of the results.

Since these tests are designed and read differently, DO NOT put regular ovulation tests under this Premom tab, or your results will be inaccurate.

Now that you have a handle on how to upload and read an ovulation predictor kit, how do you know if ovulation is actually occurring during a cycle? Using a double check method for tracking your fertility is the best way to identify if ovulation was likely successful. Learn what types of methods can be used for identifying ovulation.

How do I know if I should try a quantitative ovulation test?

Quantitative ovulation tests give you more targeted information than a regular ovulation test can, instead of looking at relative values of Luteinizing Hormone, you are able to quantify the exact amount of LH present.

Try a quantitative test with a Premom app

While there is no “magic number” that indicates a sweet spot for a luteinizing hormone that guarantees ovulation, you may be able to gain more information about how your body responds to varying levels of the luteinizing hormone when using quantitative tests.

When using ovulation tests, this is especially helpful for women who have PCOS and may have regularly elevated levels of LH that make traditional ovulation tests difficult to read. Alternatively, for women trying to conceive who are very interested in quantifiable numbers in regards to how their hormones are shifting throughout their cycle, these ovulation tests are just the thing!

Anyone trying to conceive who is looking for more precise information about LH levels will enjoy the information that Premom’s quantitative ovulation tests can provide. To maximize the benefit of our Premom quantitative ovulation tests, we would also strongly recommend that you track with our free Premom app
