Testing Tips

Know Your Cycle Pattern
The duration of the luteinizing hormone (LH) surge, which prompts the release of an egg, can differ from woman to woman. This surge may reach its peak rapidly within a few hours (known as “rapid onset”), or it may gradually increase over up to six days before ovulation (referred to as “gradual onset”).

Test at the Right Time
For accurate ovulation testing, it’s best to test from noon to early evening as this provides the most precise concentration for testing. If the test line begins to darken, it’s advisable to test twice per day.

Cross-check Symptoms
You can complement ovulation tests with additional methods such as basal body temperature (BBT) charts, progesterone (PdG) tests, cervical mucus (CM) tracking, and monitoring other ovulation symptoms. This comprehensive approach allows you to cross-reference results and gain a deeper understanding of your fertility window.
Turn Tracking Into a Faster, Smarter Fertility Plan
FastPass™ to Pregnancy pairs your ovulation tracking data with AI-powered fertile-window predictions and weekly guidance from Premom fertility experts.
Follow the plan each cycle—if you’re not pregnant in 6 cycles, eligible test purchases are refunded (terms apply). Learn more about Premom FastPass.
Product FAQs
The quantitative tests are the new advanced strips that give you a numerical result instead of a pass/fail result. They also feature easier-to-read strips with a clear, bold control line. Unlike the traditional ovulation tests, in which control test line colors differ according to LH levels, quantitative test control lines normally will not change.
It’s best to aim for your peak LH level, which typically marks the most fertile point in your cycle. While an LH surge indicates that ovulation is approaching, not all surges immediately signal your fertile window—and some can last up to 7 days.
To maximize your chances of getting pregnant, try to conceive during your full fertile window: the 5 days leading up to ovulation and ovulation day itself. Your LH levels will rise during this time, and the peak is the highest point of that surge—usually right before ovulation.
LH levels vary by person, so there’s no single number that defines a peak. Instead, you’re looking for a sharp rise compared to your baseline. Many people see LH values between 0–65 mIU/mL during a surge, but some go higher or lower. The key is identifying your personal highest reading in the cycle—that’s your peak. Make sure to use the free Premom Ovulation Tracker app to upload and read your tests.
Yes, drinking a lot of water before testing could dilute your urine and make it harder to detect LH (luteinizing hormone) levels accurately.
To get the most reliable results, try the following:
- However, some women find morning testing works better for them—so feel free to try that and see what gives you the clearest results.
- Test at the same time each day for consistency.
- Limit water intake for about 2 hours before testing.
- We recommend testing between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., as LH typically builds up in your system during this time.
Some people experience long or fluctuating LH surges that can last for several days. This is normal! Your true ovulation likely happens around the highest point of your surge. Continue tracking, and use your LH peak to time sex within your fertile window.

easy to use and great to track ovulation!

We have absolutely loved these! After months of using ovulation strips without numerical values, we finally made the switch. And thank goodness! I have a relatively low lh peak level, so it made trying to identify my peak day nearly impossible. With the app, I am able to have my lh level quickly read and stored. It has been a tremendous help!

The premium strips are the top favorite, then the easy@home are the next favorite. I’ve been able to get pregnant 2xs in 3 months using them Unfortunately they ended in chemical pregnancy however, I’m determined and will continue to use these strips at least until I get and stay pregnant. And perhaps after to prevent unless we decide otherwise.

I’ve used the app since October 2020 when I got pregnant with my son after just 2 cycles of using the app and easy@home ovulation strips. Decided to try the premom brand of ovulation strips and they did not disappoint! They helped find my peak along with the easy@home strips. Love these tests and this brand. Have never had a problem with any of their tests and will continue to use this brand!

These quantitative test strips, when used with the free Premom app, are far better than the Clear Blue brand, and better than any LH qualitative ovulation predictor tests. Thank you Premom for taking the guesswork out of trying to conceive, and providing informational resources about reproductive health!
