BD – Baby dancing (sex)
BFN – Big fat negative (pregnancy test)
BFP – Big fat positive (pregnancy test)

BW – Bloodwork

CB – Cycle buddy
CD – Cycle day
CM – Cervical mucus

CP – Chemical pregnancy or cervical position

DBO – Days before ovulation
DH, DW, DP, DS, DD, DF, DB – Dear husband, Dear wife, dear partner, dear son, dear daughter, dear fiancé, dear boyfriend
DSD, DSS – dear step daughter, dear stepson
DPT – Days Past Transfer

hCG – Human chorionic gonadotropin (known as the ‘pregnancy hormone’; hormone that is measured in a pregnancy test)

HPT – Home pregnancy test

HSG – Hysterosalpingogram (an X-ray to test for shape of uterus and any blockages that may be in the fallopian tubes)

Hx – History

IB – Implantation bleeding (light spotting or light bleeding when a fertilized egg is being implanted into uterus)
ICSI – Intracytoplasmic Sperm Insertion
IUI – Intrauterine Insemination
IVF – In Vitro Fertilization

L&D Labor and delivery

LH – Luteinizing hormone (hormone that triggers the release of an egg from the ovary; hormone measured in ovulation tests)

LMP – Last menstrual period (first day of your last period)

LP – Luteal phase (second half of the menstrual cycle; starts after ovulation day)

LPD – Luteal Phase Defect (ovaries don’t produce enough progesterone and/or progesterone isn’t responding to uterine lining) 

LUF – Luteinized unruptured follicle (Occurs when the dominant egg follicle does not rupture. Considered a cause for ovulation failure and infertility)


MIL, FIL, BIL, SIL – mother in law, father in law, brother in law, sister-in-law
M/C – Miscarriage
M/S – Morning sickness

NP – Nurse practitioner
